With Thanksgiving coming up for those of us who live in the US, I thought we could share our family's traditions. When I was little mom would have a big turkey dinner and invite the relatives to come over. Some years we went to grandma's house. Now that I have a family of my own, we go to my husband's family reunion, which takes place every year on Thanksgiving to celebrate the holiday. I try to get away with only going every other year. On the years we go to this reunion, I do my own turkey dinner the next day. The kids seem to enjoy it so much more than I remember enjoying when I was little. The kids make it so much more fun. Yesterday, when I brought our frozen turkey home, the little boys had to check it out by poking it. The thing weighed over 20 lbs! Anyone else have plans for this Thanksgiving?

Poking it. That's so cute! ^.^
My plans are to...remember yesterday? Because I'm going to be with my dad my family decided to have thanksgiving yesterday. And my grammy and grandpa decided to come, and then my aunt and uncle, and it grew until it ended up there were 19 of us and every branch of the family was there except for one, and they live in Lousiana. All in all it was a very merry time ^.^
poke it...hehe *is amused by the poking*

I was amused by the poking too. Sounds like it was a fun time, Red. Did you see relative you hadn't seen for awhile? Did you have cousins there your own age? That always makes it more fun, I think.

I saw lotsa relatives I haven't seen in a while, and I have a cousin that's two months younger than me, and one that's two days younger than her. I'm really close with the two months one (Carly), and my sister (KT), and Carly's older brother (Andrew). We're the inseperatable four. We go everywhere together, and it's awsome ^.^

Hmm... sounds like my family's Thanksgiving traditions when I was a kid are pretty close to what you guys are doing.
The last couple of years I haven't observed Thanksgiving, myself. It's too religious.

I don't think it's too religous....maybe it's because I am....=P Actually, compared to what it ws to what people have made it the religion in it had gone to nill.
Christmas too. I'm sad about CHristmas being so demorilazed, and has gone from people celebrating Christ's birth to people getting things, and getting all the things they can. It's hard not to get sucked up in that kinda of mind set, but the point of its not about getting things is really being driven home this year because my mom can't afford to get my and my sis more then a couple presents. *sighs*

My Thanksgiving's pretty much the same, except my mom is crazy. My ears were ringing earlier from her screaming at my brother because the website for some recipe or something, and she had to do it while standing right next to me, apparantly. Then I got yelled at to do a bunch of chores, just cause she was mad... Oh well, family's coming over tommorrow, (or would that be today?) and that should be interesting. Pretty much every member of my family is crazy, especially when they get together, it can be hilarious. And the food! Now I'm getting myself hungry... I never knew Thanksgiving was ever a religious type holiday though... I blame the public school system. Christmas though, I do kinda hate how the only Jesus in it anymore are those little nativity scenes. But that's people for ya, I guess.

Meh... it might just be a skewed perspective on my part that makes me see Thanksgiving as overly religious. My parents always made me say grace before eating, even though they KNEW I wasn't on speaking terms with the malevolent Christian god.

Well, I go to New Jersey for thanksgiving, no matter which side of the family I have thanksgiving with. One of the good parts about having thanksgiving with my dad's side of the family is the foosball matches. More trash-talking during those than during a pro basketball game. None of us know what being a 'good winner' is during the foosball matches. Especially me, since I have the most practice at beating everyone else.
