They were now on the outskirts of the city, and they flew back onto the main road, tires screeching and rubber burning. Casey looked back and watched as the boys also turned the corner, noting that they had at least gained a little ground. Looking ahead, Casey’s brow furrowed. “Sam… where are we going?” she asked nervously. Sam didn’t answer, but his arm twitched a little. He began to veer slightly to the side. “Sam? Where are we going?” she asked again, but still he did not answer. “Sam!” she yelled. As if to answer her, the bike veered to the right, heading towards an all too familiar ramp. “SAM!” Casey yelled. “That’s the freakin’ interstate!!” Indeed it was, and they were still going at top speed, over 100 miles per hour. But Sam ignored her. He knew that it was their best chance to lose these goons. With Casey screaming at him the whole way, the bike zoomed up the entrance ramp onto the raised interstate highway.
Horns immediately began to blare as the bike began to swerve through traffic, which just happened to be crowding around the entrance and exit ramps. Since the interstate was raised and bridge-like, there was no shoulder, so Sam kept to the middle of the road. As they whirred past the myriad horns sounding, they made out a different sound above the noise, and Casey spotted flashing red and blue lights as they sped past one particular car that quickly pulled in behind them. “Great, just what we freaking need!!” Sam yelled. The two teens were becoming so panicky and scared that apparently the word “freaking” was becoming a necessity in their vocabulary.
The police siren shrieked steadily behind them as the cop kept on them like a hawk. But it wasn’t fast enough, and Casey and Sam quickly pulled away. Casey looked back to see if they had lost their pursuers, but there they were, coming up quickly on the patrol car. She expected them to just pass it, but they all three jumped into the air, coming down on the car viciously. There was a scream as #5 landed and crushed the roof, and as he jumped off the scream rose in intensity as #1 landed and caved in the roof even more. But the scream was cut off as #7 landed and crushed the whole roof in, most likely with the inhabitant as well. The car swerved into the median, smoking as the engine died. The three boys had made absolutely sure that the police would not interfere.
They obviously figured that this wasn’t working, because they all pulled up next to each other and spoke, though Casey couldn’t hear what they were saying. Suddenly Five grabbed #1 under the arms, lifting him off of the ground. Still running, Five spun around and around in a blinding motion as #7 ran to the side of him, although he slowed considerably. Finally #5 gave one more spin and then launched #1 into the air, catapulting him forward over a tremendous distance.
He didn’t make it the whole way, but he landed much closer to the two teens than he had been before, and much closer than they both would have liked. “Speed up!” Casey yelled, looking over her shoulder, though such a request probably sounded crazy. “I can’t! I’m already going as fast as I can!” Sam yelled back, swerving to avoid a car and almost throwing the bike off balance. Casey saw that One was gaining on them, and had a desperate tone to her voice.
“Well, go faster!!” she pleaded. Then suddenly, #1 leaped into the air as he had done many times before. His body was silhouetted against the afternoon sun as Casey tracked him in the air, and she calculated from his trajectory where he would land. Suddenly she clenched Sam’s waist tighter. “Slow down, slow down, SLOW DOWN!!” she yelled, and Sam immediately complied. He didn’t brake to a halt for fear of throwing them both off, but he started to brake and slow down gradually. #1 came down with a thud that almost shook the road. If Sam hadn’t slowed he would’ve landed right on top of them.
But now they were in a new predicament, as they shot down the road and spanned the ever-closing gap between themselves and #1, still going very fast. It looked as if they were going to run him over, but somehow they both knew it wouldn’t be so easy. #1 calmly stood straight and held out a hand. Casey and Sam both screamed as they came right at him, and Sam unconsciously tightened his grip on the brake.

At their great speeds, the bike screeched on the hot pavement, flipping completely over at the sudden appliance of the brake. They were both thrown from the bike, hurtling down the road and still screaming. Casey winced as she felt herself impact into something, though it didn’t hurt much. She opened her eyes and found herself staring up into #1’s cold eyes, holding her in his arms. She kicked out, catching him in the face, and he dropped her mostly out of surprise. She hit the ground hard, but immediately began crab walking away from him. He recovered from the kick and began to walk slowly towards her, staring down and not taking his eyes off her. She gave fearful gasps as her breath raced through her lungs. She looked past him and saw Sam. He hadn’t been so lucky, and had been thrown several feet. He had skidded a ways down the road and lay still on the ground, not moving. She called out his name, but to no avail.
#1 came closer and a thousand different thoughts and emotions seemed to flood her mind at once. She tried to make sense of them, and came to a stop as her hand slipped and she fell on her back. She tried to think of something to do, anything to get him away from her, but she couldn’t think straight. As he stepped forward and stood over her, her heart leapt up into her throat, the air raced through her lungs, and one word flashed into her brain… A name, actually. Then she closed her eyes as #1 reached down with one hand and picked her up by the collar.
Then there was a sound of metal scraping against the road, and #1 paused. He turned to the source of this new sound, dropping Casey on the ground… and was promptly met with Sam’s motorcycle slamming into his face, propelling him back down the road and pinning him under the bike. Casey lay dazed on her stomach, and heard heavy booted footsteps approach her. She gasped, her tongue sticking to the roof of her mouth. Daring to open her eyes, she wished she hadn’t as she saw two large boots standing in front of her face. It was then that she decided that whoever it was, she wasn’t going to give them the luxury of taking her as they pleased. They might capture her… but she wasn’t going to make it easy for them.
She slowly propped herself up and took off her helmet, looking up into the face of the one who stood before her. Then she gasped again, and a look of both awe and worry came into her eyes, her mouth hanging open. Standing directly before her, and none the worse for the wear, was Mack… and he didn’t look too pleased.
